Nelson

Main grapes: Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Riesling, Pinot Gris, Gewürztraminer

Sub-regions: Moutere Hills, Waimea Plains

Climate: Regularly New Zealand’s sunniest region, Nelson enjoys days on end of clear, blue skies. Surrounded by mountains on three sides, it is well protected from harsh winds. Even so, due to its location on the edge of Tasman Bay, it does receive cool sea breezes that moderate the hot days and reduce the risk of frost.

You should know... Nelson is a boutique wine producing region and is renowned for its elegant Sauvignon Blancs, expressive Pinot Noirs and super perfumed aromatic wines (such as Pinot Gris, Riesling and Gewürztraminer). The incredibly high number of sunlight hours received by Nelson make conditions ideal for these aromatic wines as they enable an amazing purity of fruit, on top of that the temperature variation helps to bring out the varietal characters of the grapes.
