Beaujolais

Main grapes: RED - Gamay

Sub-regions: Brouilly, Morgon, Fleurie, Moulin-à-Vent

Climate: Moderate continental. So like British weather but with less of an attitude problem.

You should know... Though primarily known for producing red wines made from Gamay grapes, Beaujolais is no one-wine pony. There are also whites and rosés made in this area, though much less common. The appellation hierarchy of this region is fairly simple, at the bottom are the simply titled ‘Beaujolais’ wines, next are the ‘Beaujolais villages’ and at the top are the ‘Beaujolais crus’. The soil of this region tends to be granite based, hence why Gamay is so popular here…it just werks.
