Bohai Bay
Main grapes: Cabernet Gernischt, Cabernet Sauvignon, Riesling and Chardonnay
Climate: Contrasting the norm Bohai Bay tends to have cool summers and warm winter, with an overall maritime climate. This area is hugely affected by the East Asian Monsoon, which brings cool, moist air in from the Pacific Ocean to the coast line, causing huge amounts of summer rain.
You should know… The majority of producers here are found around the outskirts of urban areas – the city Yantai, on the northern coast of the peninsula is now considered to be China’s wine capital. Since Shandong, the name of the province as a whole, is located in between two major cities, if you fancy doing a spot of wine tourism that’s a little off the beaten track then you can be sure that this area would do the job nicely.
