Germany
The Germans, typically synonymous with anything that has an engine, do also (believe it or not) have a fine array of skills away from the mechanical world, particularly where the old vines are concerned. In the past, admittedly, German wines had a slightly – that might be too kind – a very dodgy rep. Sweet and cheap…and bottled in blue glass (‘why blue?’ I hear you ask. I have no idea, so pipe down). But now here we are in the 21st century, and Germany produces the highest concentration of top-class Rieslings in the world – so who’s laughing now?
