Gewürztraminer
Let's be honest, it's the opinion of many that German is far from a beautiful language…and with a name like ‘Gewürztraminer’ it doesn’t take a genius to work out why. Like its name, its smell is equally distinct – the oyster of the wine world, it might be an acquired taste but this wine has a lot to offer.
What am I getting?
So picture this; you’re about to catch a plane, you’ve got through security, you’re walking through the duty and BAM the perfume section lands an assault on your nose so potent it nearly knocks you sideways. Now put that sensation in a bottle and voilà, you’ve got yourself some Gewurz. In terms of flavor these grapes vary from tropical fruits to peppers and sweet spices like ginger. When botrytis is used there are also notes of dried fruit and honey– so having been so rude, it actually has a lot going for it if you like a sweeter wine.
What can I drink it with?
Since the wine has got a spicy vibe, it makes sense to do the same with the food. So think Eastern and Moroccan cuisine with meats like duck, chicken and pork.
I want it…
Check out these tantalising treats.
Let’s not go crazy…
Morandé one to one Gewurztraminer 2017 (dry, Chile) £7.99 per bottle
All out…
Le Gewurztraminer 2015, Jean Becker (dry, France) £19.50 per bottle
