Navarra

Main grapes: Tempranillo, Garnacha, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Graciano and very small quantities of white grapes: Chardonnay, Viura, Garnacha Blanca

Sub-regions: Tierra Estella, Valdizarbe, Baja Montaña, Ribera Alta, Ribera Baja

Climate: Navarra is an enormous region, so consequently the climate varies across its landscape: in the North it’s cool, damp and mountainous, more centrally it is dry and continental and the South enjoys the warmth of a Mediterranean climate.

You should know... In a jigsaw like fashion, Navarra happily slots in next to the Rioja region, not so happily, however, it seems to be permanently stuck in her shadow. The grape variety that characterizes this region remains somewhat of a mystery due to the fact there is such huge diversity.
