Patagonia

Main grapes: Malbec, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling

Sub-regions: Neuquen, Rio Negro

Climate: It might be a desert, and from your typical wine growing climate, however Patagonia’s cool temperature and lack of rainfall has proven it to be an ideal spot for elegant Pinot Noirs and Malbecs.

You should know... Patagonia, like Mendoza, is equally enormous in size – putting it into perspective, it’s about twice the size of California. Though more likely to be associated with dinosaurs than wine, the Neuquen and Rio Negro rivers make viticulture possible and the classic dessert climate that consists of hot days and cold nights means that the grapes grown here are full of character, with a fantastic balance of fruit and acidity.
