Pinot Noir

Oh Pinot Noir, a sensitive soul indeed. The word ‘temperamental’ certainly comes to mind since it is undeniably one of the most difficult grapes to grow. It has been dubbed by some both the most ‘frustrating’ and ‘infuriating’ grape in the world…who knew a small piece of fruit could cause so much heartache hey?

What am I getting?

This is a light wine in terms of both body and tannin, so it’s a good summer buy when you don’t want something knocking you sideways. Summer berries are where it’s at with this wine, particularly strawberry and raspberry flavours. Pinot Noirs often have a certain spice to them too, some likening to incense. The older wines tend to have a wonderful silky texture, some have even used the word ‘sensuous’, so you heard it hear first folks: this is one sexy wine.

What can I drink it with?

The fruitier Pinot Noirs are a great combination with fish dishes, such as salmon, since this wine won’t overpower the foods more delicate flavours. However, the more tannic Pinot Noirs are a brilliant with gamey foods, so it’s pheasant and partridge for days with this tipple.
