Puglia

Main grapes: Negroamaro, Primitivo (or Zinfandel if you’re a Yank)

Sub-regions: Salice Salentino

Climate: Hot, hot, hot…so black grapes are happily in abundance here.

You should know... When grown on a large scale, both Negroamaro and Primitivo can produce some cheap and cheerful easy-drinking wines, usually sold under the label Puglia IGT. On the flipside, when controlled and concentrated they also produce some pretty fancy stuff, which are full-bodied and equally full of flavour and alcohol.
