Riesling
Ah, the Riesling, just like exercise we have a bit of a love-hate relationship. This primarily has something to do with the fact that I’m really not a fan of sweet wines, and Rieslings have an extremely broad spectrum from dry to tooth-ache inducing sweet…but you know, whatever floats your boat.
What am I getting?
Germany’s Mosel and Rheingau Valleys are home to the sweet Rieslings since the grapes ripen later there. These wines tend to be crisp with lime, apple and apricot flavours, accompanied by the classic honey notes to give it that sweet finish. However, Riesling grapes grown in cooler climates such as Australia’s Eden and Clare Valleys are in the dryer stream, with more of a minerally vibe working along side citric lemon and lime flavours. Another thing to mention would also be that the smell of petrol – yes, really – is a common characteristic of these wines.
What can I drink it with?
Sugar, spice and everything nice. Because Riesling wines have a brilliant sweetness and acidity spicy foods are a fantastic match, think Indian and Asian cuisine.
I want it!
Try these out for size.
Let’s not go crazy…
